Sublimation Coating

Sublimation Coating – Easy 1,2,3

Sublimation is an exciting process and the excitement goes to a different level when you transform blank products into a vibrant, creative design. Sublimated products have a bold, bright, and vivid look unlike other printing methods.

However, sublimation on every product isn’t ideal. Sublimation printing inks need to be able to bond with a synthetic material. Polyester produces the best results. Natural materials like cotton need to be polyester-coated for sublimation.

How To Make Sublimation Coating for Untreated Materials

Before we start the process, let me tell you the required things that make the material ready for the process. Other than all the essential materials that you will need to complete the project like sublimation printer, heat press, etc. Here we will be talking about the things to prepare uncoated materials like mugs, tumblers, clothes, mobile covers, woods, and metals.

Materials required for preparing the uncoated item:

Fabric (T-shirt)

Ceramics, Mugs, Tumblers, Glass

How to make sublimation coating for the cotton

Step 1 – Prep fabric

First of all, you need to select the fabric that you want to sublimate and the design. After selecting the fabric, you will need to select the place where you want to print your favorite design.

Place a piece of butcher’s paper under and in between the t-shirt fabric so it will protect the product from the overflow to the other side of the fabric.

Step 2 – Apply spray

Now it’s time to coat the material by using the fabric sublimation coating spray. The sublimation coating spray bottle will create a layer of synthetic material similar to polyester that is now suitable for sublimation printing.

Tape off the area that you do not want the spray to get on. Spray a thick, even layer.

Step 3 – Let the coating dry

Go do something else. Don’t touch it. Let the shirt dry overnight and then you’ll be ready to heat press and transfer the design.
